ASUS Maximus VI Republic of Gamers 1150 Z87 Motherboards

ASUS has joined the ranks of other motherboard manufactures that are revealing their new socket 1150 and Z87 Maximus VI motherboards for upcoming Intel Haswell. As any PC enthusiast or gamer knows that the Republic of Gamers (ROG) are the top end motherboards from ASUS. These are the best that ASUS has to offer and don’t pull any punches when loading them down with specs. These are for the hardcore overclockers in the PC world. ASUS will be selling three different ROG models that are the Maximus VI Gene, Maximus VI Hero, and the Maximus VI Extreme.

The Maximus VI Gene

The ASUS Maximus VI Gene board will take the same shape as its predecessor in that it will be the only ROG board that is a micro-ATX form factor. The Gene motherboard although small in stature will have some of the same overclocking features that the flagship model, the Maximus VI Extreme, will have.

Features:

  • Two PCIe 3.0 x16 slots (Dual SLI or Crossfire)
  • One PCIe 2.0 x4 slot
  • 12 Phase CPU power supply
  • mPCIe combo card (for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth module)
  • Six USB 3.0 ports

Looking at all three of these boards and ASUS has said they will have mostly the same overclocking features which makes any of these a steal depending on what you are trying to build. The ASUS Maximus VI Hero seems like the value board of the three with rumors that it will be in the $200 price point to compete with other boards in the same price range. Intel Haswell is around the corner and with some people already claiming they have overclocked Intel’s new chip it will definitely be interesting to see what these enthusiast boards will be able to take Haswell to. When these motherboards are officially released then we will be able to bring you a full list of specs but from what we have learned about these so far they sound like good to great motherboards for overclocking.
