Blizzard’s Writing Challenge Announced

Determine Garrosh's Fate!

Blizzard's writing challenge

Blizzard’s World of Warcraft developers have issued a writing challenge to fans to participate in.  It’s necessarily a contest; besides glorified bragging rights, no prizes are awarded to writers.  The challenge was announced by Blizzard’s community manager, Nethaera, on the World of Warcraft forum earlier today.  Blizzard’s writing challenge encourages players to expand their creative minds for their take on the end of the latest raid, Siege of Orgrimmar.  Spoiler alert: if you’ve been living under a rock for the past four months and/or haven’t completed any form of the last raid boss in SoO, this may come as a bit of a shock.    Writers are encouraged to set the scene of Garrosh’s trial, their role being an attendee at the crucial ex-warchief’s judgment day.  Whether you’re sympathetic or hoping for a public execution, the tale must be told in one forum post.  So put on your creative hats, grab a glass of wine, and maybe watch some scenes of “A Few Good Men”.  The challenge has been posted for less than a five hours and there’s already half a dozen tales posted!

Blizzard’s Writing Challenge a Promotional Attempt?

The idea of a Blizzard’s writing challenge may come as a bit of a surprise for the WoW player base (it certainly did for me), but considering Warlords of Draenor isn’t likely hit beta testing for a few months, we’re left to deal with SoO. The last patch of the current expansion, patch 5.4.7, is currently in PTR, though raiders will be sorely disappointed with the presented content.  There will be no more new raids to experience, the changes strictly PvP-based and the new arena season 15.  Perhaps Blizzard’s writing challenge is an attempt to engage the player community and continue to keep the spark of interest ablaze with the game just a tad bit longer.   Maybe Blizzard will continue to offer community challenges for those not interested in the PvP changes.
