Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel Coming to PC

The newest Borderlands installment will tell the story of Handsome Jack

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel

2K Games and Gearbox software are at it again, with the announcement of Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. The funny name is meant to distinguish that this game occurs between Borderlands 1 & 2 (sort of like The Lion King 1 1/2, if you will). The Pre-Sequel will tell the story of Handsome Jack, and has you fighting on the enemy side contributing to the rise of his villainy and the Hyperion Corporation. This new installment’s setting is on Pandora’s moon.

4 new playable characters have been revealed so far: the robot Claptrap the Fragtrap, Athena the Gladiator (Borderlands 1 DLC), Wilhelm the Enforcer (a Borderlands 2 boss), and Nisha the Lawbringer (sheriff of Lynchwood in Borderlands 2). Since the setting is in space, there are new rules to be played by. Oxygen is a hot commodity, and you will need it to breathe first and foremost, but also to power new mobility options like double jumps, ground pounds, and air boosts. There is also the fun option to throw a grenade at enemies’ feet, blowing them up up and away into space. The low-gravity environment should also make for some epic and wacky maneuverability and battles. And as is to be expected with any new Borderlands game, players will have access to a whole new array of weapons and customization like jetpacks, weapons with elemental effects, and laser and ice weapons.

“Borderlands is one of 2K’s premiere franchises, and Borderlands 2 is the highest-selling title in the history of our company,” stated 2K’s president. “Fans are clamoring for an all-new, triple-A Borderlands experience, and we will deliver just that with Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel.”

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is currently in development by Gearbox Software and 2K Australia. It will be coming to PC, Xbox 360, and Playstation 3 running the Borderlands 2 engine. Its lack of release on Xbox One or Playstation 4 is due to the team wanting to provide a next-gen experience on the new consoles with its upcoming Borderlands 3 engine.
