Gigabyte HD 7950 (GV-R795WF3-3GD) Benchmark

After days of Clixxer and I building our test bench, benchmarking lower end cards, and running through the same games over and over, we finally got around to the Gigabyte HD 7950.  Seeing that I’ve only had the Gigabyte HD 7950 for two weeks, I was thrilled to finally put it through the test and see how it could perform in multiple games on the highest of settings.  Every card we tested before the Gigabyte HD 7950 performed rather well, however nothing was able to conquer everything.  So, let’s take a look at how the HD 7950 performed.

Metro 2033

Considering Metro 2033 came out in April 2010, this game is still very demanding.  However, the Gigabyte HD 7950 held its own and kept an average frame rate of 49.8 on very high with AAA (Analytical Anti Aliasing) on.

Battlefield 3

The Battlefield 3 benchmarks may be slightly incorrect.  I believe the Gigabyte HD 7950 actually exceeded the number’s you see here, however Battlefield 3 resolutions options only give you a choice of 1920×1080 at 60hz.  So it appears the FPS is capped at 60 during gameplay.

Farcry 3

This is where the Gigabyte HD 7950 impressed me the most.  In Farcry 3 on Ultra settings with 8xAA, the Gigabyte HD 7950 was still able to maintain an average FPS of 33.5.  This is the only card out of our current stock that can handle Farcry 3 at this level.

Final Thoughts:

Overall, we were really satisfied with the outcome of the benchmarks on this card.  If you’re looking for a GPU under $300 that can handle everything on Ultra with AA turned on, the Gigabyte HD 7950 is a great choice.  Maybe one day I’ll pick up a second card and bench it in CrossFire.

You can pick up this card now for $309.00 from Newegg.  Also included is Far Cry Blood Dragon, Crysis 3, and Bioshock Infinite.
