Halo 5: Guardians Announced, New Character Teased

The next Halo game will release in Fall 2015 in tandem with the Halo TV Series

Microsoft and 343 Industries have announced that the next Halo game is slated for Fall 2015. The game, titled Halo 5: Guardians, will release around the same time as the debut of the Halo television series to be produced by Steven Spielberg. Microsoft and 343 have so far only released one official photo, and are mum on much detail.

What we know so far about Halo 5: Guardians

We know that the new game will run at 60 frames per second and on an entirely new engine. This will mark the first time a Halo game has run at this frame rate, and should make for a beautiful experience. It will also enjoy dedicated servers and possess “the scope, features and scale we’ve been dreaming of for more than a decade” stated 343’s general manager Bonnie Ross. We also know from the released photo that there will be an entirely new character. Master Chief appears as this character’s “reflection” in the picture. While there was a deal of speculation about the new character’s gender and whether it could possibly be an embodied Cortana due to the blue glow, 343’s executive producer Josh Holmes debunked the rumors. “For everyone speculating about the mysterious Spartan in Halo 5: Guardians, he’s not Palmer (or Cortana!). He’s a NEW character,” Holmes wrote on his Twitter account. Also not confirmed is the relation between the name “Guardians” and the importance of the mysterious Guardians throughout the Halo series. With all the naming options out there, the title seems too obvious to be coincidental.

Not much else has been said at this time, but 343 and Microsoft have promised to reveal more at this year’s E3 conference, scheduled for Monday, June 9. We have only heard mention of Xbox One, so it is yet to be seen whether Halo 5: Guardians will release on PC as well.
