ROCCAT Savu Mid Size Hybrid Optical Gaming Mouse Review

In Depth Look at the ROCCAT Savu Gaming Mouse

Before we get in-depth with the ROCCAT Savu I want to go over my first impressions. I have used the Logitech MX518 optical gaming mouse for a few years now so at first the ROCCAT Savu was slightly uncomfortable but the more I used it the more comfortable I got with it. The construction of the mouse I actually liked a lot. The side grips gave lots of traction verses my Logitech MX518. While I understand more buttons means more money I was disappointed that a gaming mouse featuring a 4,000 optical DPI sensor did not have a DPI on the fly button, even though you can set one. The software once I got it loaded was pretty easy to navigate and change. Now lets on with the in-depth look at the ROCCAT Savu.

ROCCAT Savu Optical Gaming Mouse - Front

The ROCCAT Savu optical gaming mouse is very simply designed in the looks department. Except for the light at the rear of the mouse it is all black and had the ROCCAT name on top and Savu on the left side.

The ergonomic design allows your hand and more specifically your thumb to easily rest close to both the side buttons.

The rear of the ROCCAT Savu mouse is wider than the front for better comfort and you have the light at the bottom which you can pick from 16.8 million colors.

The right side of the mouse has more ergonomic support built-in for comfort and what looks like a button on the right side is not.

The ROCCAT Savu as I said earlier is a very simple mouse with its 2 click buttons, scroll wheel, and 2 left side buttons.

An overview of the top of mouse gives you better idea about how the ROCCAT designed the ergonomics of the mouse specifically for right-handed people. Depending on size of the hand this mouse can be used with a claw or palm grip. I had to use this mouse with a more claw type grip since it was not as long or wide as what I am used to using with my preferred palm grip.

ROCCAT Savu Optical Gaming Mouse Software

Downloading and installing the ROCCAT Savu software is a definite must. While it is technically not required to use the ROCCAT Savu it will be a much needed otherwise you will be stuck at the default 400 DPI setting and button configurations.

Once installed you most likely will have to do a firmware update which afterwards will ask you to unplug and plug-in your ROCCAT Savu mouse. If it doesn’t immediately start working again just give it about 15-20 seconds. In the software you will be able to set up to five different profiles to use as well as set which one to default. The software have five major tabs as you will be able to see from the pictures below but the first three are the important ones. The ROCCAT R.A.D. tab gives you information such as how many clicks or scrolls you have used and unlockable achievements. The last tab which is the update/support tab is exactly what it says since from this tab you can check from updates or visit online support for any issues.

Main Control

The main control tab lets you change the majority of the functionality settings such as DPI and sensitively. The screenshot below is after I was playing around with the settings to get them close to how I like it. After changing settings just make sure to click the apply button or they won’t change.

Button Assignment

On the button assignment tab of the ROCCAT Savu software may take some time to configure to your own personal preferences. Since to use the SHIFT[+] function you will be hitting two buttons at once you have to decide how you want to do that. Button 5 is default as your SHIFT[+] button but as you can see I changed it to button 4 to make it easier to use. If you a big macro user then you can even go ahead and make your own macros with the macro manager and assign them.
