Steam Introduces Game Subscription Plans

Value has announced today that they will start doing subscription plans though Steam that give the user flexibility and control of their game subscriptions.

Here is what Valve released:

“April 25, 2013 — Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Dota 2 and Half-Life) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source,) today announced the addition of Subscription Plans to its offering of services.

With Subscription Plans, Steam offers gamers the ability to sign up and manage payments for subscription-based games on Steam. The launch title for the new service is Darkfall Unholy Wars, with additional subscription-based games to follow.

Steam customers may now sign-up for, manage, cancel or renew game Subscription Plans at any time, online directly through Steam.

Visit Steam Support for more information about Steam Subscription Plans.”

This should be another win for Valve’s Steam service to be able to manage game subscriptions once they sign up for them and not have to go though individual websites but have everything in one spot which should help out gamers. According to Steam’s support page you will be able to cancel, renew, and link your account to games. They said they are trying to automate this so if you cancel then renew a game title it will just import any game data and you will be ready to go but in some instances you will have to get in contact with the publisher to link your Steam account and the game title.

Valve is trying to make it easy to start a subscription by the only thing you need to do is visit the game’s Steam store page and choose and plan then pay as normal and it will setup for any reoccurring charges which you will be able to easily view in your account details page.

It looks as if the only draw back to this service would be multiple account in the same game. According to the support page you can only register one account per game at this time but hopefully that will change at a later date.
