AMD FX-9590 – Worlds First 5Ghz CPU Commercially Available

AMD 5Ghz CPU - AMD FX-9590

The AMD FX-9590 was officially announced today.  This marks yet another first time breakthrough for AMD.  In case you haven’t remained current on your AMD history, AMD was the first to break the 1Ghz barrier, the first to create a windows compatible 64 bit CPU, the first to create native dual-core and quad-core CPUs, and the first to create a APU.  So being the first to reach 5Ghz off the shelf with the FX-9590 is really nothing new to AMD.

It wasn’t long ago we reported the specs for what we thought was the FX-9000 and the FX-8770.  Turns out the rumors were a little flawed, and what we were looking at was the FX-9590 and the FX-9370, which reaches 4.7Ghz off the shelf.  While we still can’t necessarily confirm that the rest of those specs are accurate, we do know the AMD FX-9590 will come clocked at 5Ghz with turbo enabled, and the AMD FX-9370 will come clocked at 4.7Ghz with turbo enabled.

Both CPU’s will feature the Piledriver architecture and feature AMD Turbo 3.0 technology.  Pricing is unavailable and release is set for “summer 2013”.

All other details are merely speculation and rumors at this time.  We can count on these processors being an improvement over the FX-8350 which currently holds the title for the fastest desktop AMD CPU.  Steamroller, the next generation AMD CPUs will be debuted later this year and should offer a larger improvement over the FX-9590 and the FX-9370.

So what are your feelings on the AMD FX-9590?  Is it yet another pointless CPU in the somewhat meaningless Ghz race, or do you expect to see huge gains out of the FX-9590?

Keep an eye out on the AMD FX Series page for specs.
