This is the side mount mod I did for my Corsair Force GT SSD’s in my Cooler Master Haf 932 Advanced paired with an EVGA Z77 FTW.
Before:
This is what the rig looked like before I started the custom side mount mod for the SSD’s. If you notice, the current location of the Corsair Force GT’s looks pretty boring.
Goal:
This is the look that I want to achieve when the side mount mod is completed in my Cooler Master Haf 932 Advanced full tower case. For this example, I cut out a template using cardboard, and mounted the SSD’s using rubber bands.
For the start of the custom side mount, I took a sheet of Lexan and traced out the template that I previously made with the cardboard. These will be my cutting lines for the Dremel. I measured each spot out to ensure the cuts will be the same size when completed.
Next, I made my cuts using a cutting wheel on the Dremel. The edges were rough here, so I need to sand all the edges. I will use the sanding tool for this on the Dremel and then finish with 800 grit sandpaper.
Now, this is the finished product after all the sanding was complete. The edges are nice and tight, now I just need to clean off the extra Lexan shavings by using a razor blade.
Since I want the effect of red LEDs shining around the edges only, I am covering the majority of my mount with Matte Black vinyl. I am going to leave 1/4″ around the edges.
And here is what it looks like after the vinyl has been placed. Right now, it is looking very clean, and almost ready for the mounting in the case.
Now it’s time to start mounting the Corsair Force GT SSD’s onto the side mount Lexan. For temporary measures, I am going to use industrial velcro to actually mount the SSD’s.
Now it’s time to actually place the side mount in the Haf 932 Advanced. Again for temporary mounting, I am going to use velcro.
Lights off buddy! All I had right now were blue LEDs, but I have red coming in. When I get the red led’s in, I will post the pics to show how awesome it looks with my EVGA Z77 FTW.
For the HAF logo, I used red vinyl to match the Corsair Force GT SSD’s exactly. It just so happens that this red matches the red on my EVGA Z77 FTW as well.
And here is with the red LEDs for my XSPC Raystorm
f1ss1on, thats a pretty cool mod for the 932. I might have to try that sometime.
Thanks clixxer, I have taken it down, but am working on a new way to case my SSD’s I now have 3 moving onto a 4th. It will be on my new build.
nice mod 🙂 hmm, might have to rethink my case to now 🙂
This is the exact same idea that I was thinking! But I’m going to put a long one, like all top to bottom of the case…
I’m tempted to bring back the see-through panel on my case.
