Alienware General Manager, Frank Azor, is saying what PC gamers have been thinking!
What does it mean to be PC gamers vs a console gamers? To me PC gamers is someone who has carefully built a rig or even bought one pre-built like an Alienware PC to be able to play games on a level that nothing else can touch. While I, like many people grew up on consoles such as Atari’s or Nintendo in my early gaming days. When the PC became affordable and mainstream it took over as to how a game could be shown and how with basically a limitless ceiling with changeable hardware unlike PC’s counterpart, the console. While this is by no means a hit on consoles since when the next generation Xbox One and PlayStation 4 release it will finally be somewhat on par with today gaming PCs. Having said this if you ask any serious gamer about consoles vs PCs, then you would probably hear that consoles have become imitations of the PC in some form. Now this is by no means anything new to us PC gamers but it is nice that a company has come out an said that the next generation of consoles are basically clones.
The General Manager of Alienware, Frank Azor, had this to say,
“A lot of the innovations and things that are proven on the PC are making their ways onto consoles,” Alienware’s genereal manager Frank Azor told us, “The consoles are looking more and more like PCs every day.”
“If you look at what Sony and Microsoft are doing, they’re taking PCs and putting them into the living room. It’s an AMD CPU, it’s an AMD graphics card, it’s a standard desktop hard drive. It’s unbelievable,” continued Azor. “That tells you that the PC is the gaming platform of choice out there, there is nothing out there that’s better. You look at what they’re trying to do and they’re becoming more and more like PCs.
“You’re installing games now instead of running them off the disc, because that’s the right thing to do; you’re downloading games digitally, which we’ve been doing on PC for years; they’re integrating certain TV aspects and stuff, well, ten years ago we started experimenting with media centre. I mean we can tell you how to do that on Alienware with media centre PCs during that whole time. It’s a little bit different now because the technology has matured considerably, but a lot of the innovations and things that are proven on the PC are making their ways onto consoles and the consoles are looking more and more like PCs every day.”
Like I said earlier, this is nothing new but any hardcore console gamer will try and tell you that a PC just isn’t the same, or atleast in my group of friends some will. I get the allure of a console and especially the new generation consoles from both perspectives of PC gamers and consoles gamers.. You don’t need to know how to built, test, program, troubleshoot to a certain degree, and really worry about it. A console typically is just connecting to a power source, your TV, an internet connection if you use one, and your also connecting up a controller. After this you are done, you might need to download an update or two and create a profile but for the most part you are done with the whole installation and setup of a console. Dealing with a PC is not really more complicated but definitely has a lot more parts. It makes sense that Microsoft’s Xbox One and the Sony PlayStation 4 have been moving in the PC direction since the debut of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 since even if the numbers are down, PC is still the gamers option and this shows it even more with the new next generation consoles basically a proprietary computer. The only difference is starting to be is PC gamers will still use a keyboard and mouse while consoles gamers don’t really have anything to match that kind of versatility.
Now this doesn’t change anything. The PC vs console war will still rage on with facts and statistics proving each side is better than the other. Looking at Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, and even Steam with their long awaited “Steam Box”, shows how that market is slowly making its way to becoming PCs to give consoles gamers what PC gamers have already been enjoying such as gamers like World of Tanks which recently came to the Xbox 360 and will be on the Xbox One.
