ASMedia Will No Longer Be Making The Chipsets For Ryzen AM4 Motherboards
AMD has been using ASMedia chipsets on all their AM4 motherboards. This trend has been going on since the first generation Ryzen chips until now. This was while AMD works on getting their best CPU to consumers. This helped the company keep their focus on the CPU side of things while still giving consumers the very best motherboards with all the latest features available. This has been kind of a double-edged sword in certain ways. People have been worried about ASMedia and their lack of security to a degree but this move to outsource their chipsets has also allowed AMD to focus more on the CPU.
AMD Will Be Using In House Chipsets Starting With The X570 Motherboards
Word just recently came out that AMD is making their chipsets in house. This in time for the new PCIe 4.0 on all X570 motherboards. This should make for a more secure chipset that many people can trust more than they would from ASMedia controlling the hardware. You’ll have to wait for the Zen2 architecture to come out sometime in June of 2019. This could mean that the Ryzen 3000 parts could come out during Computex or E3 this year. Users who’ve worried about the security issues of ASMedia can finally take solace in this move from AMD.
The New Chipsets Will Bring Good And Bad Changes On The New Motherboards
AMD producing their own chipsets is said to create more heat than ASMedia, but that users won’t notice the difference since heatsinks on motherboards seems to be a bit much anyways with all the additions like RGB on the boards. There’s no word if the move will bring with it any new features beyond PCIe 4.0 with the next line of Ryzen CPUs.
AMD Will Be Moving EPYC Features To X570
AMD decided to convert EPYC features to the new X570 motherboards. This should help simplify things as far as getting the new chipsets ready in theory. The new chipsets are what seem to be holding the new Ryzen series back from release until June though. Hopefully, the wait will be worth it in the end.
