AMD FX-9000 CPU will not be Sold Individually Confirmed

AMD FX-9000 CPU Sold to System Integrator Parts Only

AMD is teasing the public once more. The AMD FX-9000 CPU that has a turbo boost up to 5 Ghz will not be sold in stores to the public. AMD confirmed to TheTechReport.com that because of the nature of how the FX-9000 will hit 5 Ghz that it will be sold to System Integrators only.

Here is our article about the AMD FX-9000 and FX8770 for full specs.

Now on to why AMD will not be selling these chips at your neighborhood friendly Newegg, Amazon, or other retailers. If you check out the specs page above you can see that the FX-9000 has a TDP of 220W. That is a huge jump from their former flagship CPU the AMD FX-8350 at a TDP of 125W. As all PC builders understand heat is always the enemy and we just seem to never get away from it.  The current Piledriver and Vishera has a thermal barrier of 62C. Getting an FX-8320 or FX-8350 to 4.8 Ghz is not a huge task but it does require an effective liquid cooling solution. Let me repeat that, you need a liquid cooling solution to hit those numbers so with the AMD FX-9000 set to on turbo boost hit 5 Ghz are going to need a liquid cooling solution to dissipate the heat quick enough.

It would seem while AMD wants consumers to have these chips, they do not want to be on the hook for someone installing them into a case with poor airflow or a poor air CPU cooler and burn it up just trying to boot into Windows. As much as its disappointing I do understand the logic.

In the end I would think that eventually you will see people posting these up on eBay for sale and the companies that do buy these for pre built computers could also try and sell them as OEM so they are not on the hook when inevitable happens and someone tries to use a cooling solution that just flat out will not work.
