AMD HD8970M Shows up on Ebay
Yet again another AMD video card has shown up on eBay, this time the HD8970M. The first was claimed to be sold by a Canadian engineer, however this one appears to be located in the UK, so the two stories don’t seem related. I’m sure someone at AMD is smashing their fist on their desk after the HD7990 was leaked, and now the HD8970M.
The HD8970M
The HD8970M appears to be no different than the HD7970M with a slightly higher clock speed. The seller goes on to say this card should be the fastest mobile GPU of 2013 once released, however with the current battles between Nvidia and AMD, I don’t see that being likely for long.
Quote from eBay auction:
The AMD Radeon HD 8970M is an upcoming DirectX 11 graphics card for notebooks of the high-end class. It is manufactured in 28nm and based on the GCN (Graphics Core Next) architecture from AMD.
Like its predecessor HD 7970M, the HD 8970M is probably based on the desktop chip Pitcairn (1280 GCN shaders, 80 TMUs). By slightly increased clock speeds, the 8970M should still offer a slightly higher performance. First benchmarks by MSI show a 7.5 percent better 3DMark 11 score compared to the Geforce GTX 680M, making the HD 8970M one of the fastest mobile graphics cards in 2013.
Features and power of the 8970M should largely correspond to the 7970M. Thus, the card is only suitable for large DTR Notebooks.

Is it true?
Personally, I’m not too confident in this auction. They don’t list many details, and it looks more like a marketing ploy then it does a GPU auction. They mention their name in the description, provide hyperlinks to their website, and obviously water mark all their photos. But who knows? Maybe they just saw an opportunity to sell an unreleased GPU while advertising for their own site. I’ll let you be the judge.

Did you see what happened to the 7990? It ended up at 90 something thousand. Chances are this is a real card, but AMD will get it back, just like they probably got the 7990 back.
Turns out its a pre-order…. nothing to see here.
Yeah, I saw that HD7990 skyrocketed! I was kind of curious about this “pre-order”. That’s why I think this was a marketing ploy by the website rather than an actual product. I sounds like they are basing the spec’s of the GPU off rumors But who knows? Maybe they do have one.
I feel like I’ve seen this page earlier on , but upon spending a little time on here it’s obvious that this is
a new web page. Still, I’m going to bookmark this blog and begin following it frequently.
