The Gigabyte-backed Aorus X7 gaming laptop is packed full - but doesn't show it
It seems like it has been awhile since the laptop gaming world has had any newcomers – at least many worth talking about. The Aorus X7 gaming laptop may just change that. It was debuted at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show and will be the thinnest, lightest gaming laptop to date. Looking at the exterior, you don’t expect anything terribly special:
However, right off the bat you can see how thin it is. What could they possibly pack into that tiny laptop?
- NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 765M GDDR5 4GB dual graphics
- 4th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-4700HQ Processor (2.4GHz-3.4GHz)
- 17.3″ Full HD 1920×1080 LCD backlight display
- Innovative AORUS Thermal+ design
Yes, indeed. Dual-GPUs, a powerful i7 processor, and not stated above: up to 32 GB of RAM, and dual SSD drives all in a package that is 0.9″ thick. To put that in greater perspective, that is just barely thicker than the new MacBook Air‘s which are between 0.11-0.68 inches in height. The same way that Alienware is produced by Dell, Aorus is backed by Gigabyte, so we can expect fairly great quality on these laptops.
Aorus X7 Features
Aside from the impressive internals, the Aorus also has some additional features that should please gamers. Clearly cooling poses an issue with the amount of hardware packed into a super-thin shell. Aorus planned for this by positioning 5 thermal pipes, 4 vents, and 2 fans on the back of the case to keep them away from your wrists.
The screen is a standard 1080p HD display, but the Aorus X7 also supports up to 3 external displays with dual HDMI and display ports, allowing you to turn it into a regular gaming desktop if the desire strikes. In addition to the already impressive dual graphics cards, Aorus’s website states “the pair of GTX 765M graphics chips comes with a ravishing P7393 in 3DMark 11, a pure phenomenal performance on par with GTX 780M. X7 has been forged and fine-tuned to run all available titles at high resolution and settings”. The chassis itself is constructed in full aluminum, making it a solid build. For sound the laptop has 2 two-watt speakers, and 2 subwoofers. “Macro keys rarely available on gaming laptops are now a X7 standard. AORUS exclusive macro hub & keys automate and simplify routine tasks in gaming. The scissor-switch key structure guarantees lightning response and crisp touch”. Aorus also promises a latency-free Internet experience with their Killer LAN chip which ensures 100% packet transmission, even under busy network traffic. 802.11ac wireless, anti-ghosting keyboard, ability to disable the pesky Windows key, easy fan control with multiple settings, and a 2 year warranty are also a few crowd-pleasing extras.
Is the Aorus X7 for you?
It certainly is an impressive laptop, and the price definitely reflects that. Final pricing has not yet been released, but it is estimated at between $2000-3000 depending on your chosen features. While it’s a steep price, the unique gamer-centric features and sturdy-yet-thin construction make the Aorus X7 an exciting addition to the world of gaming laptops and will likely be well worth the investment. The Aorus X7 is the first and only laptop the company has announced, but they will also be releasing a keyboard, mouse, and gaming headset that look equally as impressive as the Aorus X7. Aorus seems to have a great understanding of the gaming community and the features we want in hardware, so it is exciting to see what they will continue to bring us in the future.
