Bethesda Announces New Horror Game – The Evil Within

The Evil Within

Bethesda announced today that it will be launching a new survival horror game named The Evil Within.  What makes this game even more promising is that it’s created by Shinji Mikami, the creator of Resident Evil franchise.  The company has sent out cryptic videos all week to get the fan base interested.  Their marketing strategy really had the community guessing, and now we finally know what it is.  Fortunately after watching the video a little girl didn’t come crawling out of my laptop, however I did have a chill move down my spine a few times.  Lets face the truth, they’re eerily creepy!

Teaser videos’

If you want to screw with your mind, take a look at these teaser videos released throughout the week. Personally, I avoided them as they only leave you asking, “why?”  Now that I know exactly what it is leading up to, I have found myself more inclined to watch them. It really sets you up for the trailer released today.  If you want the full experience, check out the short videos below, otherwise you can skip to the bottom to see the trailer released today.

The Video trailer

Looking at the video should give you a feeling of scary.  Because, it indeed leaves nothing but the imagination to provide us with a picture of what is to come.  Fortunately even scary horror movies have an ending, and today we know exactly what we we are looking at.  The Evil Within looks like a mix of the movie series Saw and everything that haunts us in our childhood nightmares.  To make things even more spectacular, i’m fairly certain you can catch a glimpse of a lurker in the window at 1:10 on the trailer.  Regardless of the lurker, The Evil Within appears to have everything in the horror genre that causes us not to sleep at night: barbed wire, dikes, creepy humanoids, possibly lurkers, old hospitals, blood, corpses, and photos from the 1950’s.  There’s even an image of a burning flower at one point, if that doesn’t frighten you, I don’t know what will!

Are you excited to see what Bethesda has done with the survival horror scene?  I know I am, especially since Shinji Mikami is involved in its creation.  There is nothing like the nostalgic memories of playing Resident Evil 2 in the dark, or the lurker jumping through the window the first time and scaring the piss out of you.
