IGN Pro League Assets Acquired by Blizzard!
If you recall the cancellation of the IGN IPL 6 event in Vegas, you’ll know that there were a lot of disgruntled IGN fans in the world. Many of them had already booked flights, hotels, and some had already arrived to the city for some pre-event partying. Once IPL 6 was cancelled, the industry recognized that IGN was no longer a sinking ship, it had already sunk.
The boat becomes afloat!
As the ship sunk, rumors began to circulate that IGN was searching for buyers to rescue what little stability the company had left. As an angel, or should I say Seraphin for those of you familiar with Diablo, Blizzard stepped in and purchased IGN Pro League, and all their assets along with it. The members of IPL’ staff will move on to San Francisco to form a new team “whose primary focus will be on creating high-quality web and mobile content in support of Blizzard Games.” Unfortunately for the remaining IGN fans, Blizzard has clarified that it has “no plans to continue operation of the IPL business.” Blizzards executive vice president of publishing Itzik Ben-Bassat went on to say, “This new team will help us to further develop the rich media experiences that extend the fun and engagement of our games online.”
On the plus side, some of the IPL staff will move on to join Blizzards current eSports team, and IGN plans to partner with other eSports organizations to cover their events. I think it’s too early to understand the true effects of the changes going on at both IGN and Blizzard right now. However, it seems that of existing talent at IGN now has an opportunity to work at one of the leading gaming companies in the world. How do you feel about this acquisition?

When i think of IGN i think of gamespy. My friends and i had great time on game spy back in 99 and 2000 and i bought some games threw IGN at that time it was Direct2Drive and is now GameFly. Didn’t like comrade so much.Im going to miss gamespy and IGN it was fun.
