EA Confirms Support for Xbox 360 and PS3 though 2017

EA will still make games for Xbox 360 and PS3 though 2017

Xbox 360 and PS3 have gotten confirmation they will still have new game titles though 2017. With Microsoft and Sony both set to launch both of their next generation consoles, the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, by years end EA has confirmed they will still be making games for the Xbox 360 and PS3 till atleast 2017 and maybe beyond.

Everyone has been wondering about backwards compatibility with the new Xbox One and PlayStation 4 and we have find out that because of the huge hardware advantages the next generation Xbox One and PS4 will have that nether will offer backwards compatibility. This reason alone I would think would be a big reason why EA would want to keep making games for the older consoles for those that do not want to buy a next gen console on day one or don’t plan to ever. 3+ year may seem excessive but considering the press EA has been getting lately they are actively trying to appeal to all gamers with new engines and now confirming to gamers everywhere that if they keep the older Xbox 360 and PS3 they will still be able to play new titles. Another question though would be if buy a new game how would online and multiplayer work using an Xbox 360 and PS3 vs Xbox One and PS4.

We found this information out because according to GameSpot, EA CFO Blake Jorgensen told a crowd at the Stifel 2013 Technology Conference confirmed that, “the company will keep publishing games through 2017, and possibly later.”

While this is overall is good news for gamers not wanting to upgrade to the next generation consoles that like EA games I still have to wonder if other major publishers will follow suit or try to force everyone over to the new Xbox One or PS4. Seems like a very long time to keep working on consoles that hardware laughingly fails in comparison. Personally a good year of support or maybe until the end of 2014 should be sufficient. By then most people will have decided what they want.
