Intel Core i7-3770k Overclocked to 7.2Ghz
While much of the community is focused on the release and performance of the new Intel Haswell series, a new record has appeared today showing the i7-3770K overclocked to an impressive 7.2Ghz. The previous record was held at 7Ghz, but had disabled cores to achieve a higher clock speed. In this new world record, the overclock was achieved by only disabling hyperthreading.
I7-3770k Overclocked to 7.2Ghz
Users Mad222 and John222, achieved this overclock yesterday, May 8th, 2013, using a Gigabyte Z77X-UP7 motherboard and 4GB of DDR3 clocked at 1200Mhz. The overclock was achieved using a core voltage of 1.908v a core multiplier of x63, and base clock of 114.42Mhz. With those settings Madd222 and John222 were capable of reaching an incredible 7208.19Mhz on a CPU that comes stock at only 3500Mhz or 3900Mhz turbo. That’s an amazing 105.94% increase over stock speeds!
The previous record holder achieved 7 Ghz by increasing the voltage up to 2.56v, seemingly a near record in itself. Mad222 and John222 however, were able to blast past the old records using much lower voltage of 1.9v, and a higher overclock at 7.2Ghz. While there is little to report about the actual process, one can surely assume this was done using LN2 (Liquid nitrogen) and most likely won’t be inside any gaming computer any time soon.
In the event you happen to have a Intl Core I7-3770k ready to be overclocked, a Gigabyte Z77x-UP7 motherboard, and a canister of some LN2. Then now’s your chance to mimic their settings and see if you can’t beat their world record. Who knows? Maybe you’ll be the next record breaker, and your name will be featured on the front page of ModCrash.

holy crapola. any idea if it had an ssd? if so that monster would be roaring!!!
I wonder how long they dared to keep it clocked to that speed. 7ghz is crazzy!
