Notch, the Creator of Minecraft, Releases New Web Based Game “Drop”

If you’re a fan of indie games, or just a fan of Minecraft, you’ll be pleased to know that Notch, the man behind Minecraft, released a new free to play web-based game today named,”Drop”.  Drop is a simple browser game that requires you to hit the key strokes as they appear on your page.  Failure to hit the appropriate key causes the letters on the screen to space out, making the game more difficult, and pressing the wrong key makes the letters spiral faster.  Perhaps the most impressive part of the game is the spiraling background.  It seems as if you’re always about to get the “end” of something, however Drop continues dropping deeper into the abyss that Drop is.  To score bonus points you can press the space button or enter to submit your keystrokes.  However when that button is pressed the game pauses for half a second, causing the game to become even more disorienting.

A simple game that keeps you wanting more

When you’re the man behind a game that’s sold over 10 million copies, anything you do is assumed to be instant gold.  While I’m sure most won’t be playing this game for weeks, Drop would be a great time killer when you’re bored at work.  Too bad he didn’t release a mobile app, kids and bored adults everywhere would be rejoicing.  Even if you aren’t a fan of Notch, I suggest just heading over to his page and trying it out.  One game should only takes about 60 seconds, and leaves you wanting more.  The challenge of beating your previous score, and doing everything right just keeps you hooked.  Fortunately they don’t have a leader board  so you’ll only be competing with yourself for now.

To try your luck at beating my score, head over to the Drop page on notch.net and try it out.   I managed to get a score of 241 on my first try think you can do better?

  1. No thanks, I don’t want to be sucked into this game. I know that it can lead to endless challenges among friends, to see who gets the highest score
