The mechanical switches used in pretty much any keyboard today are Cherry MX switches. These traditional mechanical switches were built and designed typically for typing but more and more are being used for gaming. Cherry MX switches have been the golden standard since mechanical keyboards were introduced into the mainstream. You can read our guide about mechanical keyboards more information. While Cherry MX black and red mechanical switches are the primary go to choice for gaming, Razer has developed their own exclusive mechanical switches to be used in their top mechanical keyboard, the Razer Blackwidow.
From Razer’s webpage about their mechanical switches they are described as below,
“The all-new Razer Mechanical Switches have an optimized set of actuation points that improve your gaming performance by giving you speed and responsiveness like never before. Requiring a force of only 50g to actuate, these new switches reset at almost half the distance of traditional mechanical switches, so you can double-tap effortlessly with blazing speed. While conventional mechanical switches are great for typing, the Razer Mechanical Switches are engineered to enhance both your gaming and typing experience.”
“Instead of focusing solely on typing comfort, as traditional mechanical switches have done, we had to completely rethink the conventional approach behind the actuation and reset points of mechanical switches in order to fine-tune them for gaming,” says Min-Liang Tan, Razer co-founder, CEO and creative director. “Our engineers’ focus for the specification was on speed, accuracy and durability to bring the unfair advantage to gamers worldwide. The new switch makes the most popular gaming keyboard in the world even better.”
Currently Razer has released detailed about two different mechanical switch, green for a clicky and tactile feel and orange for a silent with a tactile feel.
