Could we finally see the start menu back on Windows 8.1?
Nothing definite has been released yet about Windows 8.1, in fact there has been nothing but rumors so far. Recently however, Peter Klein, Microsoft’s chief financial officer, spoke of “major improvements” that could be announced very soon. He went on to say:
We built Windows 8 with touch and mobility at the center of the experience, which positions us well in this new era. However, the transition is complicated, given the size of our hardware and software ecosystem. We still have an immense amount of work to do.
Since the release of the Windows 8, it has been widely known that consumers are not pleased. Programs showed up on day 1 of release to disable certain features that the majority of Windows users strongly disliked. Of course the main thing we’re talking about here is the start button. Many of us have become so familiar with it’s usage that metro did everything but completely destroy our user experience. Rumors have been spreading that Windows 8.1 will or will not include the start menu, however I think Peter Klein’s statement says they will. It seems as if Microsoft has finally taken a stance to undo their wrongs with Windows 8, and release Windows 8.1 to remedy the issues that plague Windows 8 users and potential buyers.
Windows 8.1 Release Date
We still have some time until we’ll find out exactly what is happening. Windows 8.1 is rumored to be released sometime in June possibly during Microsoft’s Build 2013. At that time we will find out what’s really going on behind the scenes at Microsoft. Although, from what Peter Klein said earlier, we may find out before then.
With horrible overall sales, lack of consumer approval, and lack of developer support, Microsoft is really going to need to step this one up. In the end though they usually get it right, so I’m sure Windows 8.1 will be something for all of us to look forward to.
If you can’t wait around for Windows 8.1 to put the start menu back in, you can buy Start8 from Stardock. We bought keys once we updated our laptops to Windows 8 and have enjoyed the familiar feel ever since.

I definitely hope so. From what I understand, Blue will bring the button back. If so, that will help Windows 8 become a desktop OS too.
I haven’t tried windows 8 yet, and I think I won’t do it until Blue will be out. Buying the start button from a third party is not something I would do
