The Radeon VII Was Announced At CES

AMD Had A Few Announcements That Should Have People Excited

If you’ve been hoping AMD would come out with something that would be a cheaper option for your graphics card then you’ll have to keep waiting. AMD announced their new Radeon VII today at CES. The first thing people probably noticed is that the card can run as well as an RTX 2080 performance wise. Even though this is the case, you won’t get all the new features of the RTX 2080. The second thing you probably noticed, if you watched the AMD keynote is the price for this new card. The Radeon VII is going to run you $699. This is about the same as the RTX 2080.

Cryptocurrency Miners Really Hurt Prices Of Graphics Cards For Gamers In Recent Times

All this pricing seems to be because of the cryptocurrency shenanigans that happened at the end of last year. Because of that, there was an overstock of last generations graphics cards which is why Nvidia initially charged more for their new line of cards. This is probably why AMD is charging so much for their new graphics card as well. While the performance of the RTX 2080 and the Radeon VII is a great addition for graphics cards, it’s still horrible news for gamers just wanting something that runs nicely and won’t cost them through the roof at the same time. The Radeon VII has 60 compute cores as well as 16GB of HBM2 memory onboard. This card is also the first to have 7nm parts.

The Navi Graphics Cards Could Still Have A Ways Off From Being Released To The Public

The new graphics card is a second generation Vega part. You’ll still have to wait for Navi. Dr. Su showed the crowd at CES that if you run titles that use Vulkan you’ll get a significant advantage over the RTX 2080. This keynote was a milestone for AMD as well. The company will be celebrating its 50th anniversary soon and this makes their very first appearance at CES. Other things that Lisa Su talked about while taking the stage is the coming of 3rd generation Ryzen parts. This should be great news for people who’ve been waiting for updated Ryzen parts. The CPUs will give you fantastic savings in price.

PCIe 4 Is Finally On Its Way

With the new generation Ryzen parts you’ll get support for PCIe 4. This is probably the biggest news of the entire keynote. People have been waiting for PCIe 4 for a long time now. This also means that the new Radeon VII will probably also support the bigger PCIe lanes. The new graphics card will be available in February.
