Tips: Use PCPartsPicker to get the best deals and be up to date on prices.

Hi guys!

Quick little Pro Tip.  You guys might already know about the incredible website http://pcpartpicker.com/, you may already use it every day to post your rig onto forums or Reddit.

If that’s all you’re using it for, you’re not unlocking it’s true potential!  Set up an account and go to your preferences (http://pcpartpicker.com/user/YOURUSERNAME/preferences/) and at the bottom select “Enabled” for “Price Drops Over The Last 24 Hours.”   I know what you’re thinking, another useless email every day, blah blah.  If you’re hardcore about updating your system, building new ones, or just wanting to get the best deal out there- this is the best way of doing it.  Every morning around 10am I get an email from PCPartsPicker that tells me what has dropped in price over the last 24 hours- aside from providing a little “reading material” (nudge nudge) it allows me to quickly see:

  • A part that I’ve been thinking of upgrading to has become available
  • A part that I want to review has dropped in price
  • A part that I need for someone else’s system has dropped in price
  • The current lowest internet price for a particular part in case of a Brick and Mortar store run
  • Whether or not a part I’ve purchased recently has gone on sale, so I can usually get retroactively refunded the money
  • Keep up to date on price trends, allowing me to make personal trades and sales more informatively
  • PC Parts Picker email

In our world that sort of information saves time and money.  My RAM? Found out about the deal from that email.  My SSD’s? That email.  My second 670? That email.  Not even kidding or exaggerating here.  I don’t have to look at the daily deals for 100 websites or check bargain sites every day, I just read a single email a day and I’m up-to-date.

Anyway, that’s it! Hopefully I turned a few of you onto this website and you’ll start using it.
