Windows 8.1 Start Button Isn’t What You Want
Do you miss your Windows Start Button? Well fear not! In Windows 8.1 Microsoft is bringing back the start button. Okay, I kind of lied there. I mean, yeah, they’re bringing it back, just not in the fashion you wanted. Instead of the Windows 8.1 Start Button opening up the start menu, it instead will be taking you over to Metro.
I’m not sure if Microsoft isn’t listening, or if they are just determined to shove Metro down our throats, but this just wasn’t the answer anyone I’ve spoken with wanted. In a imaginary poll I took with 100 imaginary people, 99 wanted the real start menu back, and 1 didn’t own Windows 8. What I’m trying to say here is that no one wants the limitation of being forced to use Metro. If I’m wrong, someone please call me out!
Antoine LeBlond, a Corporate Vice President with Microsoft, is quoted saying,”PCs today are evolving for a world of mobile computing where people interact with their devices through touch, and we designed Windows 8 for this”. I’m not sure how you take that, but I take that as,”If you don’t want to use touch, don’t buy Windows 8.” Okay, maybe i’m somewhat bitter.
While we have this amazing operating system that has proven to be faster, looks better, and really flows well, you have this deal breaker. Like Vista, Microsoft seems to be sitting around waiting for the floods of people coming to buy their products, yet they just can’t figure out why. Oh! It must be because we didn’t put the start button on the bottom left! Oh… you guys wanted that to open up the start menu? Then they being to scratch their heads, and meanwhile we’re downloading third party applications to get around it, if we even took the time to buy it.
Okay, my rant is over. So anyhow, they’re adding the start button, and it’s going to do stuff that you can do by pressing the windows key. Basically nothing has changed, move along. When they add in the real start menu into Windows 8.1, or whatever they choose to call it, i’ll change my mind. Until then, I think this is horribly dumb decision.

“Microsoft, doing the opposite of what you wanted since 98 ME”
Right? Whoever does their market research needed to be fired 20 years ago.
