World of Tanks Announces Wargaming.net Competition

Wargaming, the gaming developer and publisher behind World of Tanks, has announced the launch of Wargaming.net League North America.  This North American league will challenge the best World of Tanks players over three seasons.  Each season will culminate in a final tournament with a $100,000 prize pool.  If you’ve ever been one to complain about not making money doing what you love, now is your opportunity.

If you’re unfamiliar with World of Tanks, I did a review of it during Week 3 of my search for the best free to play game.  It’s by far one of my favorites, and I still play it today.  With that being said don’t ask me to be on your team, I’m no crack shot with a tank.

So more about the league.  If you’re prepared to jump into the league in hopes of a piece of that $100,000 prize money, here’s the season 1 schedule:

  • Registration – March 29th through June 2nd.
  • Qualifier Match – June 5th through June 23rd.
  • Group Stage Match – July 11th through July 27th.
  • Tie Breaker and Playoff matches – July 28th.
  • Season 1 Finals – August 17th and August 18th.

So while those matches are going on, Wargaming.net will also be broadcasting a special marathon series, with each episode focusing on a team participating in the Season 1 finals.  Those episodes will be available August 8th through the 15th.  As yet another bonus, the top two finishing teams will be invited to participate in the grand finals, taking place next year in Poland.

Competition format will follow regularly practiced global standards, including 7 vs. 7 matches, tanks limited to tier 8 and below, as well as a 42 point maximum.
