As recently as a few weeks ago rumors were swirling about Microsoft doing a clock speed boost on the Xbox One to better compete with the PlayStation 4. Now thanks to Major Nelson’s blog (aka Larry Hyrb) it has been confirmed that the Xbox One clock speed will be raised from 800 Mhz to 853 Mhz via Marc Whitten of the team working on the Xbox One. Marc Whitten said it in plain English,
“We’ve tweaked up the clock speed on our GPU, from 800 MHz to 853 MHz. Just an example of how you really start landing the program as you get closer to launch.”
This was the biggest announcement from Marc Whitten but he also said that the Xbox One will also have better optimization though significant improvements in driver software for the actual hardware. Also a commitment to keep improving and optimizing software for the Xbox One until the release of the next generation console was said but I can say I hope that it will continue after that which I am sure it will. The Xbox 360 saw some great optimizations in the past year with Halo 4 and other games. The real question now will be is when both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 launch which will hold the crown for best GPU.
