Xbox One & PS4 Pushed to their Limits by The Witcher 3

The Witcher 3 taps out Xbox One and PS4

CD Projekt Red CEO, Marcin Iwinski, had an interview with IGN recently and stated some interesting tidbits about the Xbox One and PS4. If you aren’t familiar with CD Projekt Red they are the studio and developed and made The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. If you played the last couple installments of The Witcher series then you know about how they are graphic intensive games. The Witcher 3 has been in development for the past two years so they have had alot of time to try and perfect their game for next gen consoles. The Xbox One and PS4 aren’t power houses when compared to their PC brethren but I still find it surprising that The Witcher 3 studio has so quickly been able to max out performance of the consoles when it took the pretty much life span of the Xbox 360 and PS4 before studios figured out how to get every ounce of power of out of the last gen consoles. Here is what Marcin Iwinski said about the subject,

“There is a lot of power in these machines, and I don’t want to say we’re using them to their capacity, but we’re fairly close to doing so”. He continued: “So we’ve spent a lot of time with these machines, and it’s been a great experience across all three platforms. On the old platforms, namely the Xbox 360 and PS3, we probably would have had to sacrifice nearly half of our vision”.

It will be interesting to see how the consoles stack up against the PC version. One thing that consoles have always enjoyed over PCs in my opinion is the ability to optimize games. consoles only have one set of hardware to work with while making games for PC has issues with such different combinations of CPUs, Motherboards, GPUs, ram, ect.
