You Can Now Overclock The Athlon 200G CPU Thanks To MSI

A simple little BIOS update mistake lets owners of the Athlon 200G CPU overclock!

Thanks to a new bios update from MSI, the AMD Athlon 200G CPU can now be overclocked up to 3.9GHz. Usually, the AMD Athlon 200G set at a fixed 3.2GHz. This is all thanks to MSI on their AM4 Motherboards with AGESA 1006 BIOS revision. AGESA stands for AMD’s Generic Encapsulated Software Architecture. This is AMD’s name for the BIOS of Ryzen chips. Already, the Ryzen lineup already cheaper than their Intel counterpart. This, however, is the cheapest CPU you can buy for a basic desktop system. Include this error, and you can now get a little extra speed you might be looking for.

The update to AGESA added memory support along with the ability to manually assign PCIe graphics to Input-Output Memory Management Unit (IOMMU) groups. No other company has this error with their Motherboards. Each company produces BIOS updates for AM4 chips in their own way which would explain why MSI is the only motherboard where you can overclock the CPU. First off, this is a mistake on MSI’s part, but a nice little surprise for owners of the Athlon chip, nonetheless. MSI will undoubtedly correct the error with future revisions to AGESA. In order to overclock the chip, you will have to keep this update on MSI motherboards, but this could be a great option for better than average performance on a basic desktop.
