AMD Mantle Enabled Star Swarm Demo Released

Between the leak about AMD Mantle being included in the soon to be released AMD Catalyst Controller 14.1 beta drivers and DICE released data supporting how Battlefield 4 will preform alot of curiosity is surrounding what Mantle will truly do once its released. We have gone over what AMD Mantle is which you can read here and now Oxide Games and developer Stardock have released their new Nitrous Engine demo on Steam called the Star Swarm Demo.

What is the Nitrous Engine and Star Swarm Demo?

The Nitrous Engine as I mentioned earlier is the collaboration between Oxide Games and Stardock that the Star Swarm demo was built upon that simulates two AI fleets fighting each other in real time to stress your graphics card out to the max. The Nitrous Engine and Star Swarm demo has the ability to have about 10,000 units moving around on screen at any given time doing an assortment of things. One very cool thing about this demo is that you will never have the same results since every time you run the demo it will be different since it doesn’t run a single set of instructions but lets the AI determine it. Basically the AI will react to every move different based on a mathematical computation of what is going on.

Preliminary numbers show that using the Mantle API you can get up to a 319% increase in performance from the CPU side of things at 1080p and up to 281% at 1600p resolutions. Both these numbers were using the “Extreme” settings with a AMD A10-7850K and AMD Radeon R9 290X.

The only drawback to all of this wonder AMD Mantle talk is you can download the Star Swarm demo on Steam but you have to wait for AMD to release the Catalyst 14.1 beta drivers that include Mantle.  You can download the demo here.
