Unopened Noctua NH-U12S CPU Cooler

Noctua sent over the Noctua NH-U12S CPU cooler for us to review, and inform you guys on the performance. This cooler will be the first of many CPU coolers we’ll be testing on the socket FM2 (A10-6800K) AMD Test Drive system throughout the month of July. After the last cooler is tested, we’ll be compiling the data to let you guys know which cooler performs the best. So you can look forward to that, but for now let’s go over see how the Noctua NH-U12S does.

Noctua NH-U12S

According to the Noctua website, the Noctua NH-U12S is 100% RAM compatible, meaning its 45mm fin depth will not block your RAM slots. You can also pick up the Noctua NM-I3 mounting kit free of charge from Noctua, to use this cooler on older sockets such as Intel LGA775 or LGA1366. Additionally, Noctua promises to provide upgrade kits for future sockets if technically possible. With that being said, this kit should be future proof and should not hinder your current or future build.

While item specifications aren’t often much to talk about, I was actually quite impressed with the entire Noctua NH-U12S package. The thermal compound was an extra bonus, as it’s something you’ll be able to use again on another project. The SecuFirm2 mounting kit is neatly packaged for both AMD and Intel, and came with everything down to the screwdriver to install it. I have to say, Noctua really put some time into ensuring you have everything you need. This is a kit where someone with no knowledge of replacing CPU coolers could easily get the installation done.
