AMD Radeon HD 7990 Benchmark Tests and Temps
I know the AMD Radeon HD 7990 has been benchmarked to death which is part of the reason I did not want to review this card until now. With Mantle being released I figured it would be worth it to go ahead and benchmark what is still the fastest AMD card to date. For games I choose only to use Battlefield 4 since I could switch between Mantle and DirectX 11 APIs for comparison. If you are curious to see how the Radeon HD 7990 preforms in other games you can use your imagination based on the data below or a quick Google search should get you all the benchmarks you can think of. I would say my only regret is I don’t currently have better resolution monitors to test the Radeon HD 7990 and Mantle API.
So now lets look at the system specs I used to test the Radeon HD 7990 and benchmarks!

3DMark 11 Professional Edition – FireStrike Extreme
Overall the Intel i7-4770k and AMD Radeon HD 7990 did pretty well using the 3DMark 11 FireStrike Extreme test. Everything ran at stock speeds which does give me headroom to overclock both the CPU and GPU to up my score.
Star Swarm Stress Test (DirectX 11 & Mantle)
If you haven’t heard of the Star Swarm stress test then you may want to look into it. A quick run down is that this stress test can use both Mantle and DirectX 11 APIs, have 10,000 objects on screen at once, AI controlled which will net you different results each time as you can tell by looking at the average objects on screen. While this isn’t the perfect test since the exact same thing isn’t replicated each time it is run it does still give you an idea about how well your AMD GCN products will do using the Mantle API.
Battlefield 4 (DirectX 11 & Mantle)
As I stated before I am only using Battlefield 4 as a game test for frame rates since it is currently the only major AAA title that can take advantage of the Mantle API. I found the results interesting and keep in mind I am using a single 1080p monitor which the AMD Radon HD 7990 is major overkill for and hence why my frame rates are so high. Having said that I won’t complain about it any further since most people I know just use a 1080p monitor and dream of that 144 Hz Benq monitor.
Temperatures
Since this is a review I wanted to throw in how the temps held up on the various test. Nothing ground breaking since this GPU is using the reference design cooler and has been tested over and over but its always good to know how a card performs.
Just as a side note also is that when I used CGI Miner for cryptocurrencies I was hashing about 560 MH per GPU which is slightly under what I have seen on different charts.
Head over to the next page for my final thoughts about the AMD Radeon HD 7990 GPU!
